NEW DELHI: Amid Chennai’s battle against waterlogged roads and drenched homes, Google has extended its support to the city and has created the Crisis Response tool called ” south india flooding”

The tool provides users with access to emergency helpline numbers; crowdsourced list of places and people offering shelter; maps of crowdsourced flooded streets and other such important information. It also offers important tweets, updated news and videos on Chennai floods.

Along with this official tool by the internet giant, a Google spreadsheet has emerged as a help in promoting relief and rescue-related information in Chennai. This Google spreadsheet also provides detailed information about where locals can find help in the form of shelter, food, electricity and other basic necessities.

The document, which has been shared extensively on social media in the last two days, gives details on close to 220 locations in the city where people in need can take refuge, and the curator advises people to make quick updates so that more and more users can give their inputs here.

Technology has been used extensively to provide help in varying degrees here. Even though many Chennai locals have reportedly said that they are running out of charge on their phone, Twitter and Facebook users in the country and around the world are at the forefront in using the web to help.
